A Night in August
You can feel the heat,
it's almost human,
emanating from a heavy boulder,
one too big to carry on my shoulder.
Soaking up the solar I assume,
the temperature was hitting 97
in the afternoon and then at night
there's an afterglow of heat and light,
and that includes the hydrogen in heaven
when it's forming into constellations.
And the ground is good for concentration,
laying on my back on Rattlesnake Hill
behind my parent's house. I think I will
embrace a rock, I hope it's not effete.
A full moon, you can almost feel the heat.
