O.M.
Now for an Olympic
Moment
though it is a non-event,
the athletes going through the motions
secondary to emotion
stirred up in the spongy tissues
of the crowd. Forget the issues
and ignore entire events,
the only way they're making sense
of something is to see the reaction
on a face. I want some action,
not a detour through the sentimental.
I wonder where they went,
the eclipsed competitors
while someone cries. The editors
are going for the women viewers,
psychological voyeurs,
the self-imbued who can't understand
a person standing on their hands
without it leading to a climax
of emotion. Obscure the facts,
we're all mothers and daughters here
(commercial break) and here's a tear,
the way it falls in other lands,
the evidence of their active glands.
